Dog Grooming FAQs:
Before I bring my dog in for their grooming appointment?
Please ensure that whilst your dog is on Vanity Fur VIP premises, this includes outside areas, that your dog is kept on a lead at all times. That they have not been fed at least one hour before their appointment and that they have been to the toilet.
When can my puppy come to have a puppy introduction session?
A puppy can come for a puppy introduction session two weeks after their last vaccination. I have undertaken additional training to become an Approved Groomer for Taking the Grrr out of Grooming Dogs this means I understand the importance of working with puppies at their own pace to make grooming as easy as possible. I understand the various training methods to help, and be able to provide support to the owners so that they can also help their puppies become accustomed to grooming. I provide tailored puppy introductions sessions that are aligned with the above.
How long should I go between grooms?
It is recommended that you have a regular grooming schedule for your pet dependent on the breed of your pet, its coat type and lifestyle. These can be discussed at your grooming appointment. Keeping to a regular schedule can help to prevent for example, matting of your pets coat and many more issues.
My dog is in season, can she still come for her groom?
If you have an appointment booked with me and your pet comes into season, please let me know and I will be happy to reschedule your appointment for when she has finished her season.
My dog has a medical condition, finds it hard to stand, does not like being groomed or is very nervous?
I have undertaken additional training to become an Approved Groomer for Taking the Grrr out of Grooming Dogs. This means I understand the importance of working with puppies, elderly dogs, nervous dogs, and dogs with medical conditions at their own pace to make grooming as easy as possible. I understand the various training methods to help, and be able to provide support to the owners, so that they can also help their dogs become accustomed to grooming. Providing tailored introduction sessions that are aligned with the above. Offering a one-to-one grooming service where all dogs in my care will have my full attention. Provision of time to promote a relaxing environment is important to me, I do not force any dogs to do anything they do not want to do, I offer consent based grooming aiming to build trust with your dog to promote a better grooming experience. Your dog will experience a one-to-one grooming experience with the same groomer (Melanie) everytime, your pet won’t need to get used to a new groomer each visit. Dogs require the time, patience, routine, and consistency to help build their confidence and here at Vanity Fur VIP this is what I aim to provide.
Do you pluck ears or express anal glands?
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidance is that groomers do not offer the expression of anal glands or ear plucking services to avoid causing potential infections. Please contact your vet if you require this service. Instead I am able to clip the hair around the ears to allow airflow and I clip the hygiene areas.
